This post has been moved. Please find it now on my new baby and kid focused blog, Hazel & Ollie. There I'll be sharing all kinds of inspiration from nursery decor, kids fashion, maternity and new born shoots and more!
Much like everyone else in the midwest, I love fall. It's those few months of the year that we get a break from the blazing heat of summer, and bitter cold of winter. So obviously I absolutely had to plan a fall/halloween themed floral workshop. And what says fall more than making floral arrangements in pumpkins? Nothing that I can think of!
I recently had the absolute pleasure of partnering up with The Coveted Home for a beautiful late summer floral design workshop. If you haven't been to The Coveted Home you are missing out. It's a gorgeously curated home decor store on the Country Club Plaza. Filled with amazing furniture, rugs, prints, lamps, and so, so much more, plus beautiful accessories like jewelry and bags. I love just going in and looking at all these amazing things. Owner Jaclyn is also an incredible interior designer. (Above is the awesome Coveted Home team with their flowers).
When Jaclyn said she'd love to host a workshop I was so thrilled. The night was full of gorgeous flowers of course, as well as a delicious summer sangria from The Garnish Co., bites by Moxie Catering, and Coveted Home provided all the attendees with a beautiful vessel from Convivial Production to arrange their flowers in. The talented Sarah Sweeney was on hand to capture all of it for us.
It was such a wonderful evening, and I have to say a huge thank you of course to all of my lovely vendors, but also to the ladies that attended and showed their support. I feel truly blessed and grateful to be able to share my love of flowers with others, and I hope that all of my students feel the same. So thanks guys for making it a success! Can't wait for the next one.
Floral crowns are the best. But for real, there's no simpler way to make an occasion feel extra special than to put on a beautiful crown made of fresh flowers. Whether it's for a bridal shower, a bachelorette or birthday party, or even a wedding, in my mind all of those occasions call for a floral crown. That's why I loved teaching the Summer Floral Crown Workshop with The Bloom Academy.
This technique is so simple, even for beginners. With delicious cocktails by River Market Event Place, and yummy appetizers by Moxie Catering the event was a perfect girls night out for all the ladies who attended.
Floral selections for the night included marigolds, safflower, gomphrena, garden roses, and beautiful eucalyptus and spray roses. I did some demonstration, and then the ladies got to pick their own flowers and create their floral crowns hands on.
A huge thank you to the lovely Morgan Miller Photography for the images, and to all of you ladies that attended the event. I hope that you had the best time, and learned a lot too! I've got a Fall Floral Crown Workshop coming up soon, so gather up your girlfriends and join me for some florally goodness!
I love collaborations, they're pretty much my jam. When Gwen from one of my favorite local blogs, The Makerista, contacted me about creating some florals for her sweet girls Swan Lake birthday party, of course I said yes. Gwen wanted lush, romantic florals, in pastel and ivory, but with a touch of moodiness to them. We added in dark plum and maroon, with some textural elements to accomplish just that, and kept things classic with silver mercury glass containers.
She's got such a beautiful eye, and curated all the other details of the decor so perfectly to match the parties theme. I'm sharing just a few of the florals here, but you absolutely have to head on over to her blog to see the rest of the gorgeousness from the event. (all photos shared in this post were taken by Gwen).
And here's a few pics of how she styled them post party. Swoon right? Her house is pretty much amazing.
Thank you so much Gwen for letting me take part in your little girls special day. I can't wait to collaborate again!
I've been working away on some really awesome collaborations with some of my favorite local businesses. I've been a huge fan of The Hair Parlour for a long time now. Owner Jamie is such a sweetheart, an amazing biz lady, and totally up for collaborations (check out this great hair and make-up tutorial). We decided to create an awesome event for First Friday's Kansas City, and we'll both be bringing something fun to the table. So mark your calendars and save the date for this unique event, we can't wait to see all your lovely faces there!
Also this event is open invitation, so please pass along details to anyone you think might be interested. You can see more here: https://www.facebook.com/events/401700843349113/
So something kind of funny happened recently. I was asked to go on KCTV5's morning show Better Kansas City. I only say funny because I couldn't believe it was happening. Talk about a pinch me moment! They asked me to come on and talk about The Bloom Academy, and give a little floral demo. I was more than happy to oblige. We did two different segments and you can see them here and here.
Everyone was super welcoming, and helped to put me at ease. I mean, it was live TV, so it's a little bit nerve wracking. I had such a blast, and all in all I think I did an OK job. I hope that it's something I get to do again someday. Thanks so much KCTV5 Better Kansas City for having me on!
I'm so thrilled to share that The Bloom Academy will be heading to Lawrence, KS on June 13th for a special workshop event in collaboration with Ruff House Art. Jill will be hosting us in her beautiful letter press studio and stationary shop on Mass street. I'll be teaching Flower Arranging 101, where we'll go over the basics of floral prep, care, and arranging. I love sharing my love of flowers with new people, and hope they will discover as much joy in floral design as I have.
I'm super excited about working with Jill, and I hope that you'll join us for this one of a kind workshop. Hop on over to The Bloom Academy website to purchase your tickets, and don't wait, they go fast!
What's better than an afternoon of flowers, cocktails, and yummy food? I'll tell you what, a FREE afternoon including all these things. I'm super pumped about The Bloom Academy "Spring Has Sprung" workshop, coming up April 19th.
I want to giveaway a ticket to one of you. The workshop includes demonstration of basic floral care and arranging, plus you'll get to create your very own arrangement. Our event is hosted in the beautiful River Market Event Place space, and they are also providing cocktails.
