Hi I'm Emily, blog-o-holic, floral and jewelry designer, and small business owner.
Handmaker of Things is a lifestyle blog that centers around my passion for the DIY movement. It includes projects in the realms of home decor and design, cooking, entertaining, style, as well as tid bits of my life as an entrepreneur, and projects and ideas that I find inspiring. I don't just do one thing, but rather am a lover of all things creative, which is where the name of the blog comes from (it's also the tagline of my business). I believe everyone should live a beautiful, creative, hand made life.
I started emmy-ray back in 2006, after graduating from college with a degree in metalsmithing and printmaking. Originally my focus was creating and selling jewelry. In 2008 I did my own wedding flowers, and began getting referrals from friends and family to do their weddings and events. I continued to work a full-time job, and did floral design on the weekends, and in 2010, when the school I worked at closed, I decided to take a chance and start working on running emmy-ray full time.
Since then I've also written several blogs, including a wedding blog, a stationary blog, as well as running the The Blog Guild. In 2014 I decided to start a brand new venture that marries my love for teaching and floral design, The Bloom Academy. Through it I teach floral workshops so that others can find their own inspiration and love of designing with beautiful blooms.
I thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me. I love collaborating and working with other creative people, so please feel free to reach out to me anytime at emily@emmy-ray.com!
