Temperatures are finally starting to drop here in the midwest, and if you're anything like me you'll be missing all the beautiful blooms outside. However something I think a lot of people really miss in the fall/winter months are their gardens. Fresh veggies and herbs right at your fingertips. Why not bring a bit of the garden indoors with this fun washi tape herb garden DIY.
Here's that you'll need:
- Herbs, I purchased these at Trader Joes.
- Shovel
- Washi Tape
- Planter. You can find this wooden version here.
- Small bag of potting soil
First decorate your planter. I used different width washi tapes in coordinating colors of teal blue, and gold. Use your imagination and create fun stripes and patterns.
I'll assume that you don't want water running all over your counter everytime you try to hydrate your little garden, and fortunately this wooden box is lined with plastic. If you find one that isn't I'd suggest doing so so that water won't leak. However your herbs will need drainage to prevent root rot. I'd suggest using pebbles, wood chips, or in my case handfuls of gumballs from the tree in our front yard :)
Next plant your herbs. The pot I got from Trader Joes contained rosemary, thyme, and sage. I split them up, and add them to my planter.
Put it in your kitchen so you can reach out and grab some fresh herbs anytime you need them. Bon appetit!
