Today I'm sharing one of my very favorite summertime cocktail recipes, and this make your own lemonade bar is perfect for the upcoming holiday weekend. I like to start with fresh squeezed, home made lemonade. I've tried this cocktail with store bought, all different brands, and it's just not the same. So let's start with the recipe.
Fresh Squeezed Lemonade Recipe
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 3-4 cups water
First juice 4-6 lemons to get 1 cup lemon juice. Next we'll add the sweet stuff, and there's two ways to make this recipe. If you want to really make it right you'll need to first make simple syrup. Boil 1 cup water, and dissolve 1 cup sugar in the boiling water. Let it cool to room temperature. However I've also made it in a hurry skipping this step, and dissolving the sugar straight into the lemon juice/water mixture. It still tastes amazing, but some of the sugar will settle to the bottom once it sits for awhile. Either way you decide to do it, add the sugar. Then add your 3-4 cups water to taste. If it's too sweet for you, you can add some more straight lemon juice until it reaches your desired tartness.
To create your cocktail bar vodka is the best mixer. I like to buy flavored vodkas to provide guests with different options. Stoli's flavored vodkas are my favorite, smooth and just the right amount of flavor.
Berries make pretty garnish, and I also cut up some limes in case anyone wants to make a flavored limeade instead. Mint also make an amazing addition. I think it especially compliments the raspberry flavor.
Mason jars have been around for awhile now, but they're still a summertime favorite for me, and striped paper straws add a festive touch (and you can coordinate them to any party theme).
Now your guests can customize their drinks to their desired flavor and strength, or skip the alcohol altogether. I hope you'll try this fun make your own lemonade cocktail bar at your next party. So fun! See more 4th of July entertaining ideas here, and on my Pinterest board.
